Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has recently updated its policy on Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs), which are required for nationals who need a visa to visit Canada for tourism, business, study, or transit. Previously, these visas were often issued as multiple-entry visas, typically valid for up to 10 years (or until the passport’s expiration date if it’s sooner).
With the new guidelines, immigration officers now have more flexibility in choosing between single-entry or multiple-entry visas based on each applicant’s unique situation. This includes factors like the reason for their visit, their financial situation, health, and connections to their home country.
For those approved for a multiple-entry visa, officers can also adjust the validity period based on the purpose of the visit and other relevant factors, like the applicant’s status in their country of residence or current political or economic conditions there.
This shift in policy aligns with broader concerns over Canada’s housing availability and cost of living. The Canadian government is also working on a strategy to reduce both permanent and temporary immigration to manage these challenges more effectively. For more information please contact us.
