Updates to the UAE Visa-on-Arrival Program: What You Need to Know
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has rolled out several updates to its visa-on-arrival (VOA) program, affecting nationals from various countries. Here’s a friendly breakdown of the changes:
-
Clarification on VOA Durations
For travelers from Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States, the stay limit is now clearly set at 90 days within a 180-day period. This resolves past confusion about the maximum stay for some of these nationals.
-
Updated VOA Rules for Specific Countries
- Georgia, Maldives, and South Korea:
Travelers from these countries are now subject to a 90-day stay limit within a 180-day period. Previously, there was no restriction tied to a rolling 180-day period.
- New Zealand:
New Zealand nationals can now stay for 90 days within a 180-day period, a significant improvement from the earlier allowance of just 30 days without the 180-day tracking.
-
Changes for Indian Nationals
- UK Residence Visa Holders:
Indian nationals holding only a UK residence visa will no longer qualify for the conditional 14-day VOA.
- Other Eligible Visas:
Indian nationals with a U.S. visit visa or Green Card or an EU visit or residence visa can still enjoy the 14-day VOA, with an option to extend for another 14 days.
- Future 60-Day VOA Option:
A new 60-day conditional VOA might be introduced for eligible Indian nationals. The criteria are expected to match the current 14-day VOA requirements, but the timeline for implementation is yet to be confirmed.
What Does This Mean for Travelers?
If you’re planning a trip to the UAE, double-check your eligibility and duration of stay based on the latest rules. These updates are designed to standardize and streamline entry requirements, but it’s always wise to stay informed before booking your travel.
