Canada’s immigration department (IRCC) has announced that the new Home Care Worker Immigration Program will start on March 31, 2025.
June 4, 2024: IRCC has introduced new immigration programs for caregivers. These programs will let home care workers become permanent residents as soon as they arrive in Canada. This is a big change because, right now, caregivers need to work in Canada for a while before they can apply for permanent residency. The new programs will also allow caregivers to work for organizations that offer temporary or part-time care to people who are semi-independent or recovering from an injury or illness—something that’s not allowed under the current rules.
To be eligible, applicants will need to:
– Have basic English or French skills (CLB level 4, which is lower than the current requirement of level 5).
– Have the equivalent of a Canadian high school diploma (currently, a college or university credential is required).
– Have recent and relevant work experience.
– Have a full-time job offer in-home care.
The exact start date for these programs hasn’t been announced yet, but more details about who can apply and how to apply will be shared before they launch.
The government is working on making these new caregiver programs a permanent part of Canada’s immigration system.
