In July 2023, graduates from Australian universities in specific skill shortage fields were allowed to seek a two-year extension for their Temporary Graduate subclass 485 visa. However, this extension provision will come to an end in mid-2024, with the government yet to specify a precise date.
This decision reflects adjustments in Australia’s economic landscape and additional factors outlined in the government’s Migration Strategy. Nonetheless, international graduates holding Australian qualifications and meeting the Australian study criteria will continue to qualify for the existing Temporary Graduate (Post-Study Work stream) visa.
