Recently, the Romanian government has granted 100,000 non-EU nationals work authorization quota spots for the year 2024.

Initially, the Romanian government considered increasing the quota of foreign workers to 140,000, but the government reconsidered its position and earlier this year approved a new quota of only 100,000 workers from outside the European space which is the same as the year 2023, an insufficient number to cover the actual existing need at the moment on the labor market in Romania.

This decision was taken following consultations with unions and employers and the evaluation of the number of applications for issuing employment permits from the beginning of the year up to now was also put into consideration, and also of the number of jobs declared vacant by employers, especially in the private sector.
