UK: ETA Mandatory for Non-European Travelers Starting January 8, 2025

The UK now requires travellers from visa-free countries to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) if they plan to visit for up to six months. This includes those coming for tourism, business, or short studies and creative workers staying up to three months.

To apply, travellers need to fill out an online form or use an app, providing personal details, passport information, and a photo. The application costs £10.

ETAs are valid for two years (or until your passport expires) and cover multiple trips. However, Irish nationals, and non-Irish residents of Ireland travelling within the Common Travel Area, don’t need an ETA. Also, if you already need a visa to enter the UK, you don’t need an ETA.
