UK Plans to Raise Immigration Fees

The UK government has announced proposals to increase certain immigration fees, including the cost of issuing a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS), among others. Specifically, the COS fee, which employers must pay when sponsoring foreign nationals under the Skilled Worker Route, is expected to more than double, rising from GBP 239 to GBP 525.

These proposals are currently awaiting approval by the UK Parliament, and other legal processes must occur before the changes take effect. As a result, there is no definitive date for when the fee increases will be implemented.

Employers in the United Kingdom planning to hire foreign nationals should factor in these increased fees when preparing their budgets.

Additional proposed fee increases include:

  • Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA): The application fee is expected to rise from GBP 10 to GBP 16.
  • UK Citizenship: There are also proposals to increase the cost of applying for UK citizenship.
